Auslandkolonie 3A: Thursday and Friday Update

Enable Ireland

On Thursday morning, we took the bus to Roscahill to help out at Brigit's Garden. Brigit's Garden is almost like parks with a teahouse and a little shop but you have to buy a ticket to get in. They rebuilt the teahouse and next weekend they will have a huge reopening festival. One attraction of the festival is, that you can plant some flowers in your old shoes. For that they needed some examples. So we planted some daisies into old welling boots. After other different tasks we completed in the garden, we had tea and cookies with the other volunteers.
We got the information from the Volunteer Centre Galway, that there will be a 5K run on Thursday evening and that they need some volunteers. The race was organized by Enable Ireland. It’s a foundation that helps adults and kids with disabilities. Without knowing what our task will be, we went to the starting point and waited for some instructions. They sent us to the 3K point, where we had to make sure, that nobody took a wrong turn or got lost. But the biggest part of our job was cheering on the runners. Most people were really happy that there was somebody cheering for them, but after 1 ½ hours, we were almost as tired as the runners.
Friday was Irish kitchen day. The cooking group made a really delicious Shepherd’s pie, Irish bread and Guinness chocolate muffins. Everyone really enjoyed the meal, which you could tell by the applause the group got at the end.
